Tourism Strategies and Spatial Planning

Adventure Capital UK - Cumbria Tourism
During 2009, we have been working with Cumbria Tourism and partners developing product opportunities for the adventure tourism sector in Cumbria, specifically a market review and appraisal to identify and assess best growth prospects. The focus of our work has been to review and assess the adventure tourism sector from a customer and market perspective, test and develop strategic priorities for the sector in Cumbria and provide a coherent framework with defined actions and interventions for developing adventure tourism products.

A Tourism Strategy for East Kent Region
We formed part of a team alongside South East England Tourist Board and we were commissioned by the local council to research and develop a tourism strategy for the East Kent region. Our principal involvement related to the identification of practical and achievable commercial development opportunities, compatible with the area’s strategic aims. We also developed a recommended approach to funding.

Bridgend County Borough County
Working in a multi-disciplinary team we advised on the development of a county wide events strategy for a Bridgend.

Hampshire Economic Partnership ‘Shaping Prosperity for Hampshire and Its Cities’
Completed a survey relating to the links between planners and tourism officers in the County and initiated work to establish supplementary guidance on tourism policies within the statutory planning framework.

Kent County Council, New Tourism Development, European Funded
We managed a European funded programme (EU Interreg II initiative) to evaluate the potential for new tourism development in Kent (and the wider Transmanche Region), aiming to encourage inward investment.

Spatial Plan for Central Wales Tourism
Study on behalf of the Mid Wales Tourism Partnership to contribute towards the Spatial Plan for Central Wales. The study included carrying out a review of existing research and a significant consultation exercise to identify ‘gaps’ within the tourism market place. From this new opportunities were identified for the tourism product in Central Wales with a detailed action plan for the project partners.

Strategic Tourism Development and Promotional Advice - Sibiu, Romania
Liaising with the British Council and the Local Government of Sibiu, a county in Romania, we provided strategic development and promotional advice to develop and market Sibiu's unique tourism product to both the domestic and international markets. We explored opportunities based around specialist cultural and heritage tourism, as well as winter sports set within the wider framework of rural and urban development.

Upper Waveney Valley Study
We led a multi-disciplinary study team on behalf of Mid-Suffolk District Council to assess the potential to enhance the tourism and recreational facilities along The Waveney Valley, including environmental enhancement schemes. The study analysed two major sites in particular, producing outline schemes for grant application and planning purposes.
